Contex HD Apeiron 42

Contact-Free Scanning for Fine Art, Fragile Originals and Exceptional Colour

The Contex HD Apeiron 42 is a professional contact-free large format scanner designed for fine art, fragile originals, textiles and other colour-critical materials where accurate reproduction and careful handling are essential.

With a 42 × 60 inch scan area, 1200 dpi optical resolution, advanced CCD imaging and high-CRI daylight LED illumination, it captures fine detail, subtle tonal variation and accurate colour without the original coming into contact with the scanning system.

Contex HD Apeiron 42 Key features -

  • Contact-free scanning – Originals remain untouched by the scanner surface, making it suitable for valuable, delicate and fragile materials.
  • 42 × 60 inch scan area – Capture large artwork, posters, textiles and other oversized originals in a single scan.
  • 1200 dpi optical resolution – Six premium camera lenses and quad-linear Toshiba CCDs capture fine detail and tonal information.
  • Up to 130 mm focal plane height – Scan thicker items such as framed artwork, while the scanner provides up to 254 mm total media clearance.
  • Natural daylight LED illumination – TRI-R LED technology recreates the natural daylight spectrum for accurate and consistent colour reproduction.
  • Four lighting positions – Adjust the direction of illumination to emphasise texture, shadows, highlights and surface characteristics.
  • No UV or IR radiation – Museum-conscious lighting helps protect sensitive and valuable originals during digitisation.
  • FADGI 4-star & ISO 19264-1 compliant – Designed for demanding cultural heritage, archival and professional digitisation requirements.
  • CRI above 98 – High colour rendering performance supports accurate reproduction of artwork, fabrics and colour-critical originals.
  • Nextimage Apeiron included – Dedicated software provides scan control, image adjustment, colour management and post-scan surface-effect tools through the integrated 22" touchscreen.

Contex HD Apeiron 42 – Capture Fine Art Without Compromise

Designed for professional fine art, heritage and cultural digitisation, the Contex HD Apeiron 42 combines contact-free scanning with high-resolution CCD capture to protect valuable originals while preserving the detail, colour and character of the source material.

A generous 42 × 60 inch scan area allows large paintings, prints, textiles and other oversized originals to be captured in a single workflow, while the adjustable focal plane can accommodate thicker materials and framed pieces. Because the original never passes through rollers or comes into contact with a scanning surface, the Apeiron 42 is particularly well suited to delicate, valuable and irregular items.

Its 1200 dpi optical resolution, premium camera system and high-CRI daylight LED illumination are designed to reproduce fine detail, subtle tonal transitions and accurate colour. Four selectable lighting positions also allow you to control how surface texture, brushwork, relief and shadows are represented, giving you greater flexibility when digitising artwork with physical depth or texture.

Contex HD Apeiron 42 – Precision Capture for Fine Art and Heritage

For colour-critical and archival work, the HD Apeiron 42 is designed to support demanding digitisation standards including FADGI 4-star and ISO 19264-1 workflows. Dedicated Nextimage Apeiron software and the integrated touchscreen provide control over capture, colour, image adjustment and lighting, helping create a streamlined professional digitisation workflow from original to finished file.

Discover the power of Nextimage Apeiron software

Nextimage Apeiron is dedicated scanning software developed specifically for the Contex HD Apeiron 42, giving you control over capture, colour, lighting, focus and image processing within a streamlined fine art digitisation workflow.

The software is included with the scanner, together with a 22" adjustable touchscreen, allowing key settings to be controlled directly at the scanner. Presets for applications such as paintings, watercolours, fabrics, reflective materials and documents help simplify setup, while custom settings can be saved for repeat work.

Nextimage Apeiron – Advanced Control for Fine Art Digitisation

Nextimage Apeiron also includes a post-scan 3D effect control, allowing the appearance of surface texture to be increased or reduced after capture. This can be particularly useful when working with brushwork, canvas texture, relief and other dimensional characteristics where you want greater control over how the original is represented digitally.

For demanding archive and cultural heritage workflows, the HD Apeiron 42 and Nextimage Apeiron combination is designed to support FADGI 4-star and ISO 19264-1 digitisation standards, helping organisations work towards recognised benchmarks for image quality, colour accuracy and capture consistency.

Nextimage Apeiron and the 22" touchscreen are included with the HD Apeiron 42. A suitable Windows PC is required separately.
